Popular Nigerian social media critic VeryDarkMan has publicly criticized his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, for cautioning him against taking unnecessary risks. Adeyanju had on his social media platform advised VeryDarkMan to be careful, warning that public support is fleeting and if anything happened to him, people would quickly move on.
Adeyanju’s statement suggested that Nigerians tend to overrate public figures but do not maintain long-term concern. Reacting via an Instagram video, VeryDarkMan expressed deep disappointment, accusing his lawyer of cowardice for making such remarks despite being a fellow activist.
He argued that saying Nigerians will move on if he dies is a dismissive and fear-driven comment, pointing out that even global figures like Jesus Christ, the Pope, and former Nigerian President Buhari died and life went on.
VeryDarkMan emphasized that this kind of talk is a tactic used by politicians to discourage dissent and bravery. He also highlighted the ongoing dangers faced by activists in Nigeria regardless of their caution. This exchange has fueled speculations about a rift between the lawyer and his client, stirring conversations about activism, risk, and support in the Nigerian sociopolitical landscape.
