Nollywood actor and filmmaker Yul Edochie has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to bring back the cashless policy introduced by the previous administration, highlighting its positive impact on Nigeria’s economy. In a post shared on Instagram and X, Edochie noted that the policy significantly increased the value of the naira, helped reduce the prices of goods, and restored value to low denomination notes such as ₦5, ₦10, ₦20, and ₦50.
Edochie also emphasized that the cashless system played a crucial role in reducing kidnapping across the country by limiting criminals’ access to physical cash. He urged the president to reconsider reintroducing the policy to benefit the nation’s economy and security.
Addressing President Tinubu directly, Edochie wrote:
"I humbly suggest you bring back the cashless policy. When it was introduced by the previous administration, it increased the value of the naira tremendously. It helped to bring down prices of goods and it made 5 naira, 10, 20 and 50 naira notes regain value. The cashless policy also helped to reduce kidnapping massively. Consider it again Sir."
The actor’s appeal has sparked discussions online, with many Nigerians weighing in on the potential benefits and challenges of reinstating the cashless policy amid ongoing economic pressures in the country.
