The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has accused Chinedu Okeke Christian, the top scorer of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) with a score of 375, of manipulating his identity and altering records to gain multiple admissions. According to JAMB Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, investigations revealed that Okeke, who applied to study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Lagos, was previously admitted to study Medicine at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) four years ago and remains an active student there.
JAMB contacted UNN for clarification, which confirmed Okeke’s ongoing enrollment in the medical program, with no record of withdrawal. This raised concerns about the legitimacy of his current application and admission. Consequently, JAMB has written to the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria to ensure Okeke is not permitted to practice medicine under these circumstances.
The board alleges that Okeke altered his records prior to registering for the 2025 UTME, a claim reportedly confirmed even by some of his supporters. To safeguard candidate data integrity, JAMB has partnered with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).
However, some education experts, including Alex Onyia, CEO of Educare, have accused JAMB of unfairly targeting Okeke, suggesting that the candidate was affected by a system glitch during the 2025 UTME, which forced him to retake the exam where he eventually scored the highest mark.
Okeke remains Nigeria’s top UTME scorer for 2025, but the controversy surrounding his admissions status continues to generate debate about examination integrity and admission processes in the country.
