Flutterwave, Africa’s leading payments technology company, has announced the acquisition of 20 additional Money Transmitter Licenses (MTLs) in the United States, bringing its total direct licenses to 34. This expansion allows Flutterwave to operate its flagship remittance solution, Send App, across a wider range of U.S. states and territories without relying on partners or intermediaries.
With this development, users in the U.S. can now send money seamlessly to Nigeria, Ghana, and Egypt, unlocking new remittance corridors that were previously unavailable. The company has also streamlined the onboarding process with a quick ID check, making it faster and easier for new users to start sending money.
Additional improvements include enhanced support for U.S.-issued Visa and Discover cards, stronger security measures to protect transactions and ensure regulatory compliance, and optimized in-app flows for a more efficient user experience.
States newly covered include Washington D.C., Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, Michigan, South Carolina, Tennessee, and many others such as Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Maine, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
Flutterwave’s Founder and CEO, Olugbenga “GB” Agboola, highlighted that this expansion empowers millions of Africans in the U.S. to maintain financial ties with their home countries, support their families, and contribute to economic development across Africa. The company remains committed to bridging Africa with the global economy through innovative, secure, and compliant payment solutions.
This milestone follows Flutterwave’s recent enhancements, including integrating Swap for seamless foreign exchange transactions and securing regulatory approvals in Ghana, further solidifying its position as a leading fintech innovator in cross-border payments.
