Investigative Journalist Fisayo Soyombo Criticizes ADC as “APC Pro Max,” Offers No Real Alternative

Investigative journalist Fisayo Soyombo has sharply criticized the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing it as a political refuge for displaced politicians and a mere extension of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). In a social media post on July 8, 2025, Soyombo dismissed the ADC as a “vendetta actualisation vehicle” and labeled it the “new APC” or “APC Pro Max,” arguing that it offers no genuine alternative to Nigeria’s current political challenges.

Soyombo warned that if the 2027 elections boil down to a contest between the APC and the ADC, the outcome would still favor entrenched political interests rather than the Nigerian people. He drew parallels to the 2015 elections, where expectations for reform were unmet, cautioning that the ADC-led coalition, dominated by the “old guard,” would simply perpetuate existing political patterns.

He stated, “ADC has nothing to offer other than rotational motion: five steps forward and at least another five behind, at best.” Soyombo emphasized that true salvation for Nigeria lies not in politicians but in the readiness of the people themselves to demand change.

His critique comes amid ongoing political realignments, with the ADC emerging as the adopted platform for a coalition of opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other prominent politicians from APC, PDP, and Labour Party backgrounds. Despite this, Soyombo’s assessment highlights skepticism about whether the ADC can truly break Nigeria’s cycle of political inertia or merely represent a rebranded continuation of the status quo.
