Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on July 7, 2025, visited St. Philomena College of Nursing Sciences in Benin City, Edo State, where he donated ₦15 million to support the institution’s healthcare training and ongoing building projects. Obi described the donation as part of his broader commitment to investing in healthcare, education, and poverty alleviation as foundational pillars for Nigeria’s development.
During his visit, Obi praised the college’s management, staff, and students for their dedication to producing competent healthcare professionals, calling the institution a “beacon of hope” in Nigeria’s quest for national progress. He emphasized that investing in people, particularly in health and education, is the most effective path to sustainable development and urged others to support similar initiatives.
Obi’s donation will help complete an ongoing building project at the college, reinforcing the critical role nurses play in the healthcare system. He reiterated his vision of a “New Nigeria” emerging through empowerment and investment in human capital, highlighting that a healthy and educated population is key to the country’s prosperity.
This contribution adds to Obi’s history of supporting nursing education, following previous donations to nursing colleges in other Nigerian states, reflecting his consistent advocacy for strengthening healthcare infrastructure nationwide.
