Abuja, Nigeria – The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned both the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for their alleged neglect of Nigerians’ suffering amid escalating insecurity in the country.
In a statement released by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC urged President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency in Katsina and Zamfara States following a recent wave of violent attacks that reportedly claimed over 140 lives in the past two months.
Describing the killings as evidence of Nigeria’s collapsed security architecture, the ADC criticized the Federal Government’s ineffective handling of the crisis. Abdullahi remarked, “This evil act epitomizes the horrors that Nigerians have been forced to endure under this administration.”
The ADC also highlighted the alarming recommendation by Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) urging citizens to learn self-defense as a sign of the government’s failure to guarantee security.
The party accused the APC and PDP of prioritizing power and political ambitions over the safety and lives of ordinary Nigerians. They also faulted President Tinubu for focusing on international engagements while urgent domestic security challenges worsen.
“Our President continues to jet-set across the world, chasing photo opportunities, while his people are dying in dozens at home,” Abdullahi said, lamenting the government’s silence and lack of consolation to bereaved families and survivors.
The ADC called for an immediate and sustained state of emergency in Katsina and Zamfara until order can be restored and the bloodshed stemmed. Furthermore, they urged a comprehensive overhaul of Nigeria’s national security architecture to address its glaring inadequacies.
This statement comes amidst heightened security challenges marked by mass killings, abductions, and village raids in the northern states, prompting calls for urgent government action from various quarters.
