About 142 people kidnapped from multiple villages in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, Zamfara State, were released unconditionally by notorious bandit leader Muhammadu Dansaadiyya on August 27, 2025.
The victims, taken from villages including Gidan Gardawa, Kyambarawa, Maguru, Kurya Madaro, Kagara, Yankaba, Madira, and Dogon Daji, were immediately taken to General Hospital, Kaura Namoda, for medical checks and debriefing before being reunited with their families.
Authorities have described the release as part of ongoing non-military peace efforts by the federal government aimed at restoring peace in the Northwest and securing freedom for others still held captive.
This development highlights fragile but hopeful progress in peace negotiations with armed groups terrorizing the region.
