Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed expressed confidence that he and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde would form an ideal pairing if they ran together in the 2027 presidential election. Speaking in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Mohammed highlighted the need for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to field a Christian presidential candidate from the South and a Muslim vice president from the North as a way to reflect Nigeria’s religious and ethnic diversity.
Mohammed criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress's (APC) 2023 Muslim-Muslim ticket as a “mistake” that failed to consider the country’s diversity. He praised both his and Makinde’s leadership records at the subnational level and said the PDP remains open in its candidate selection process, welcoming various potential pairings.
He emphasized that whatever the choice, it should align with the desires and sensibilities of Nigerians and offered support to whoever emerges as the PDP presidential candidate.
