Goodluck Jonathan Remains a PDP Member, Says Party as 2027 Presidential Speculations Swirl

The National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Debo Ologunagba, has affirmed that former President Goodluck Jonathan has neither resigned from the party nor relinquished his membership status. This clarification comes amid widespread rumors linking Jonathan to a potential presidential bid under the PDP umbrella in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show, Ologunagba emphasized that Jonathan remains a member because he has not formally resigned. While the former president has remained silent on his ambitions for the upcoming election, speculation continues to grow around his possible candidacy.

On a related note, Ologunagba refrained from commenting on former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi’s rumored plans to return to the PDP, noting that Obi has not expressed any interest publicly.

Highlighting the party’s internal strengths, the spokesperson pointed to a cadre of highly qualified leaders and governors such as Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde who embody the party’s capacity to contest and lead Nigeria effectively in 2027.

The PDP maintains that it has several capable candidates prepared to represent the party and Nigerians in the next electoral cycle, underlining its commitment to stable and credible political leadership.
