Popular Kannywood actor Alhaji Mato Yakubu Nata’ala, widely known for his memorable role in the Dadin Kowa series on Arewa 24, has publicly appealed for financial support as he continues his courageous battle with cancer. The actor revealed in a widely circulated video on social media that he has been living with the illness for nearly two years and has been undergoing treatment for the past one year and seven months.
Despite receiving significant support from friends, clerics, colleagues in the film industry, and community groups, Nata’ala admitted that the ongoing medical treatment has severely drained his financial resources. He detailed some of the costs involved, including paying ₦250,000 every three weeks for injections and ₦51,000 for hospital bed fees, which have become overwhelming.
“I would like to thank everyone who has supported me, especially groups of clerics, the Arewa 24 team, and Kannywood Vanguard,” Nata’ala expressed with gratitude. He also took the opportunity to seek forgiveness from anyone he might have wronged in life, asking, “I need help. May Allah help us all.”
A native of Yobe State, Mallam Nata’ala began his acting career in 1986 and has contributed extensively to Hausa cinema both as an actor and a scriptwriter, often penning more scripts than his on-screen appearances.
Aside from his professional life, he is also a family man, married to three wives and blessed with ten children.
The actor’s plea has touched many hearts across Nigeria’s northern entertainment community and beyond, underscoring the challenges faced by veteran actors in the region made vulnerable by health issues and inadequate resources.
As he fights cancer with unwavering spirit, Mallam Nata’ala continues to inspire many with his legacy in Kannywood, while the public rallies in prayer and support for his recovery and medical needs.
