Brasília, Brazil – President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Brasília for a two-day official state visit aimed at enhancing diplomatic and economic relations between Nigeria and Brazil.
The presidential aircraft touched down at Brasília International Airport around 12:30 a.m. local time (4:30 a.m. Nigerian time) on Monday. Upon arrival, President Tinubu was warmly received by Carlos José Moreno Garcete, Secretary for Africa and the Middle East, Ambassador of Brazil to Nigeria, and other senior Brazilian government officials. Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, was also present to welcome the President.
During the visit, President Tinubu is scheduled to meet with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva at the Planalto Palace. The two leaders are expected to witness the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and participate in a joint press conference.
Key topics on the agenda include boosting cooperation in agriculture, advancing energy transition initiatives, enhancing regional security, and exploring other areas of mutual strategic interest. Special focus has been given to activating multibillion-dollar agricultural investments and the $1.1 billion Green Imperative mechanization project, signaling Nigeria’s intent to leverage Brazil’s expertise in agribusiness and renewable energy.
The state visit represents the third official trip by President Tinubu to Brazil, underscoring the importance of strengthening economic ties and fostering partnerships with Latin America’s largest economy and a key global player. The visit follows Tinubu’s participation in the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) and a three-day stopover in Los Angeles, United States.
Presidential aides highlight that beyond formal agreements, the visit aims to deepen political trust, expand cultural exchanges, and harness shared opportunities in digital transformation, climate resilience, and aviation.
This diplomatic engagement is viewed as a significant step towards diversifying Nigeria’s international partnerships and accelerating national development through strategic foreign collaborations.
