Abdulmumin Jibrin, the Kano State lawmaker and prominent member of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has indicated that he may be moving away from Kwankwasiyya leader Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, signaling a potential political realignment that could see him reuniting with President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking ahead of the 2027 elections, Jibrin stressed that his shifting political stance should come as no surprise, emphasizing his independence in making political decisions. While he has not explicitly confirmed his next political destination, Jibrin acknowledged ongoing discussions about Kwankwaso possibly joining APC, a move he did not dismiss.
Jibrin said that Kwankwaso's doors remain open for an alliance with Tinubu, sharing that political dynamics in Kano include resistance within the APC due to local ambitions. He highlighted his support for a government of national unity and stressed stability as key to Kano’s and Nigeria’s progress.
Having previously served as Director-General of the Bola Tinubu Support Group before defecting to the NNPP in 2022, Jibrin’s recent visits to Tinubu at the Presidential Villa have fueled speculation about a possible reunion.
The lawmaker reaffirmed his conviction that Tinubu will secure victory in the 2027 presidential elections, while expressing hope for collaboration between Tinubu and Kwankwaso.
