Atiku Abubakar Brands Tinubu’s Administration as Full-Blown Dictatorship

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has strongly condemned President Bola Tinubu’s administration, describing it as a full-blown dictatorship and one of the most incompetent and anti-people governments in Nigeria’s democratic history.

Atiku criticized Tinubu’s recent actions, including the illegal suspension and reinstatement of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, accusing the administration of constitutional breaches and authoritarian tendencies. He highlighted the stark increase in Nigeria’s national debt from ₦49 trillion in 2023 to ₦144 trillion in 2025, contrasting it with reduced debt levels in some state governments.

He also lamented the worsening economic hardship, rising poverty, and wasteful public spending under Tinubu’s watch. Atiku accused the administration of disregarding transparency, accountability, and responsible leadership, claiming policies disproportionately target impoverished Nigerians while benefiting the elite.

Furthermore, Atiku criticized the government’s harsh actions against labor activists and democratic freedoms, citing arrests of peaceful protesters demanding overdue wage payments.

Despite opposition coalitions forming to defend Nigerian democracy, Atiku warned that the administration’s authoritarianism threatens the nation’s democratic future. He urged Nigerians and the National Assembly to resist unconstitutional measures and to uphold democratic principles.

This condemnation is part of a broader opposition narrative challenging President Tinubu’s governance style as detrimental to Nigeria’s political stability and socioeconomic well-being.
