The Lagos State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in combating violent crime with the arrest of John Samuel, a notorious armed robber, hired assassin, and suspected murderer.
The 28-year-old, originally from Akwa Ibom State, was apprehended at his hideout in Epe on Friday, September 19, 2025, around 2:00 p.m. Samuel had recently been released from prison after serving six years for armed robbery.
Investigations revealed that on August 18, 2025, Samuel shot and seriously wounded a businessman, Gbenga Obama, in broad daylight on Gbajobi Street, Allen Avenue, Ikeja. He robbed the victim of a valuable gold necklace and other items before fleeing with an accomplice on a motorcycle.
CCTV footage showed Samuel firing an English pistol at the businessman during the robbery.
The injured businessman was hospitalized but has since been discharged following treatment.
Samuel admitted during police interrogation that he sold the stolen necklace for N4 million, well below its true market price, and confessed to resuming violent criminal activities immediately after his release.
The police are actively working to arrest other members of Samuel’s gang, and prosecution will follow upon completion of investigations.
Lagos Police Commissioner CP Olohundare Jimoh praised the swift action and reassured residents that the police are dedicated to ensuring public safety.
“Lagos has no hiding place for criminals,” the Commissioner warned, encouraging residents to continue their daily activities without fear.
