Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani has publicly challenged the Presidency's portrayal of President Bola Tinubu's recent trip to Europe as a "working vacation." In a tweet on X (formerly Twitter), Sani expressed skepticism about the seemingly contradictory phrase, emphasizing the distinct meanings of “working” and “vacation.”
Sani wrote, “I understand the word ‘working’. I understand the word ‘vacation’. The sentence ‘working vacation’ is something else,” highlighting his view that the term diminishes the seriousness or authenticity of the president’s official leave.
The Presidency had earlier announced that President Tinubu departed Abuja on September 4, 2025, to commence his 2025 annual leave, described as lasting 10 working days. The vacation itinerary includes stops in France and the United Kingdom before his expected return to Nigeria.
Sani’s pointed reaction underscores the persistent debates around the definition and appropriateness of combining official work duties with personal vacation time for heads of state, a subject often scrutinized in Nigerian political discourse.
