The Obidient Movement has appealed to former President Goodluck Jonathan to support Peter Obi instead of contesting against him in the upcoming 2027 presidential election.
This appeal comes shortly after a private, closed-door meeting between Obi and Jonathan, where they discussed the state of the nation. Obi shared pictures from the meeting on his social media, describing Jonathan as a “very dear elder brother, statesman, and leader.”
While Jonathan has yet to make a public announcement about his intentions for 2027, the Obidient Movement’s National Coordinator, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, emphasized that Obi remains the preferred candidate for millions of Nigerians seeking a new direction.
Tanko highlighted the friendship and longstanding relationship between the two leaders, but urged Jonathan to remain a respected statesman by supporting Obi’s candidacy. He pointed out Jonathan’s achievements as a former president and suggested that for the nation’s progress, Jonathan stepping aside for Obi would be a positive step.
The development is seen as part of growing political maneuverings ahead of the 2027 elections, with efforts continuing to build coalitions that can challenge the ruling party.
