2027: Jonathan Has Not Informed Me He Wants to Contest for President – Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revealed that former President Goodluck Jonathan has not personally informed him of any intention to run for the 2027 presidential election. Speaking to journalists in Abuja, Wike dismissed media reports suggesting that Jonathan is considering a comeback, stating that he has not received any direct communication from the former president regarding such plans.

Wike explained that the rumors about Jonathan’s presidential ambitions appear to be speculative, saying, “You’re the one telling me here. Jonathan has never told me; he has never called me one day that, look, I’m being pressured to run, what’s your thinking?”

Despite the reports and growing public and political pressure on Jonathan to re-enter the presidential race, Wike emphasized that any definitive decision rests with Jonathan himself. He assured that should Jonathan consult him, he would offer his candid and honest advice.

These remarks come amid swirling speculation as some political actors and supporters have been pushing for Jonathan’s return to power under the PDP banner ahead of the 2027 general elections. However, Jonathan has maintained a low public profile, prompting both supporters and critics to await formal declarations.

As Nigeria approaches a critical election cycle, the question of Jonathan’s possible candidacy remains a key point of discussion among political analysts and party strategists, with many watching closely for signals that could impact alliance formations and electoral dynamics.
