Benjamin Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, has confidently declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will wrest control of Abia State from the Labour Party in the 2027 elections. Speaking at a recent APC supporters' event in Umuahia, the state capital, Kalu criticized Governor Alex Otti's administration, calling it underwhelming despite substantial federal allocations.
Kalu emphasized that Otti "hasn't done enough for Abians" and that the state's current governance falls short compared to previous administrations, even those with far less financial resources. He reiterated APC's commitment to winning the election through the power of the people's votes, dismissing any notion that federal force would be used to effect political change.
The Deputy Speaker urged Abians to register and obtain voter cards to ensure high participation in the electoral process, noting that Abia currently has one of the lowest numbers of registered voters. He praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his efforts to support the state's development and assured that the APC would strive to deliver tangible benefits to the grassroots if given the mandate in 2027.
This announcement underscores APC's strategic focus on expanding its influence in Abia State and marks a growing political contest between the ruling Labour Party and the opposition ahead of the upcoming general elections.
