EFCC Arraigns Former NSITF Chair Ngozi Olejeme Over Alleged ₦1 Billion Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned Ngozi Olejeme, former Board Chairman of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), on multiple counts of fraud totaling ₦1 billion. The arraignment took place before Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Maitama, Abuja, on October 8, 2025.

Olejeme faces eight counts, including allegations of converting, transferring, and taking possession of proceeds of unlawful activity. One charge details that she allegedly converted ₦321.6 million paid into a corporate account, knowing the funds were proceeds of unlawful activity. Another count involves procuring the conversion of $2 million into naira for payment to a company, which was also alleged to be proceeds of illegal activity.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to all charges. During the proceedings, her counsel applied for bail, which Justice Nwite adjourned for hearing on November 17, 2025. Olajeme was released to her counsel pending the bail hearing.

The EFCC prosecutor announced plans to call 14 witnesses to substantiate the charges as trial preparations continue.
