Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, former Governor of Abia State and current Senator representing Abia North, has declared that he could become Nigeria’s president at any age if given the opportunity. However, he has made it clear that his presidential ambition is currently on hold as he aligns firmly with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and supports President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term in office.
Speaking in Igbere, Abia State, Kalu emphasized that while he believes in his capacity to lead the nation someday, loyalty to his party and President Tinubu takes precedence. He reiterated that the APC has endorsed Tinubu for the 2027 election, and he respects the supremacy of the party’s decision. Kalu said, “At God’s own time, if I still have the energy and the resources, after President Tinubu in 2031, who says I can’t contest for the President? It is possible”.
Kalu also highlighted his track record as a politician who has contributed significantly to the development of his constituency, citing achievements such as the construction of over 187 roads and 123 primary schools. He expressed readiness to seek re-election for his senatorial seat in 2027, subject to the wishes of his people.punchng
On the performance of President Tinubu, Kalu expressed strong support, commending the president’s economic reforms and infrastructure projects. He described Tinubu as a visionary leader deserving of encouragement and a full second term, which he believes will bring stability and progress to Nigeria.
While suggesting he is qualified for top leadership roles, Kalu remains cautious about prematurely pursuing presidential ambitions, reinforcing unity within the APC and the importance of internal party democracy.
