Dr. Christopher Kolade, a celebrated Nigerian broadcaster, diplomat, corporate leader, and academic, has passed away peacefully at the age of 92. He died on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of distinguished service across multiple sectors in Nigeria.
Born on December 28, 1932, in Erin-Oke, Osun State, Dr. Kolade had a prolific career spanning education, media, business, and diplomacy. He started as an education officer before making his mark as the Director-General of the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation between 1960 and 1978. Later, he transitioned into the corporate world, notably serving as Chief Executive and Chairman of Cadbury Nigeria Plc.
His diplomatic service was highlighted by his tenure as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom from 2002 to 2007. Beyond this, Dr. Kolade was a respected academic, lecturing on corporate governance, leadership, and human resource management at Lagos Business School and other institutions associated with Pan-Atlantic University.
Dr. Kolade was widely admired for his integrity and contributions to corporate governance in Nigeria. He held prestigious positions such as President of the Nigerian Institute of Management and was a Fellow of several professional bodies including the Institute of Directors and the Nigerian Institute of Management.
He was also a committed Anglican lay canon and a recipient of the national honor of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON). Throughout his life, Dr. Kolade was noted for his dedication to excellence, integrity, and service to the Nigerian nation.
His family expressed gratitude for his life of faith and service, stating, “We are thankful for his incredible life of faith and service; and are grateful for God’s abundant blessings.”
