Senator Gabriel Suswam, former Governor of Benue State, has firmly denied rumours that he plans to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The denial came through a statement by his media aide, Bede Bartholomew, amid widespread speculation on social media suggesting Suswam would announce his defection during a state banquet organized by Governor Hyacinth Alia in Makurdi.
The statement described the rumours as “false, mischievous, and misleading,” emphasizing that Suswam’s attendance at the event was purely as a stakeholder and former leader of the state, with no political motives attached. Bartholomew urged supporters and the public to disregard the claims, calling them “a lie from the deepest pit of hell.”
These rumours followed reports that several prominent political figures in Benue, including some former officeholders, are defecting to the APC. However, Suswam reiterated his commitment to his current political alignment and thanked his supporters for their continued trust.
The clarification came shortly before a planned APC welcoming ceremony for Enugu Governor Peter Mbah’s defection, highlighting ongoing political shifts but reaffirming that Suswam is not part of these moves.
