The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a planned electricity blackout affecting parts of Lagos State on October 11, 12, 18, and 19, 2025. The blackout is scheduled to last for eight hours daily, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, to facilitate essential maintenance work on key 330kV transmission lines serving the Ajah/Lekki and Ajah/Alagbon areas.
According to TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah, the preventive maintenance will involve the installation of a transformer protective system on the 300MVA 330/132/33kV power transformer at the Alagbon Transmission Substation. The maintenance crew will also replace corroded insulators on critical transmission towers to ensure the reliability and safety of power supply in the affected zones.
The affected areas expected to experience power interruptions during the outage include Lekki, Ikoyi, Jakande, and surrounding communities. Residents and businesses in these locations are advised to plan accordingly to mitigate disruptions during the daily eight-hour power outage period.
This maintenance exercise is part of TCN’s ongoing efforts to upgrade and sustain the electricity infrastructure to reduce frequent outages and improve power delivery consistency in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial nerve center. The blackout announcement comes after a previous 25-day power outage in Lagos earlier in 2025, underscoring the challenges and necessary upgrades within the transmission network.
TCN has apologized for any inconvenience caused by the outage and urged the public’s understanding and cooperation as these improvements are critical for long-term power stability in Lagos State.
