The Gombe State Government is mourning the loss of Colonel Abdullahi Bello (rtd), the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, who died in a fatal road accident on Friday. The devastating crash also claimed the life of Sergeant Adamu Husaini, Bello’s loyal police orderly. Both were returning from Maiduguri, Borno State, after attending the North East Regional Consultation on the Development of a National Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) program when the accident occurred along Malam Sidi-Gombe road.
The announcement was made in an official statement by Ismaila Uba Misilli, Director-General of Press Affairs, who expressed deep sorrow over the tragic event. Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya described Colonel Bello as a disciplined and dedicated public servant whose military experience and leadership significantly contributed to the safety and security of Gombe State.
Governor Yahaya praised the late commissioner as a pillar of courage and selflessness, recalling his impactful contributions to the State Executive Council, particularly in shaping internal security policies and fostering inter-agency collaboration. The governor extended heartfelt condolences to the families of Colonel Bello and Sergeant Husaini, praying for Almighty Allah to forgive their shortcomings and grant them Aljannat Firdaus.
The driver who was also involved in the crash sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment. Details about the funeral prayers for Colonel Bello and Sergeant Husaini will be announced in due course. This tragic loss marks a significant blow to the state and the nation, as both men died while dutifully serving their community and country.
