The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Amupitan, has revealed that voting will not take place in two polling units during the Anambra State governorship election scheduled for November 8, 2025. This decision is informed by election security concerns and logistical challenges.
Amupitan emphasized that the commission has been meticulous in planning, including thorough coordination with security agencies to ensure a peaceful and credible poll. However, in certain volatile areas where credible risks to voters' safety exist, postponing polls at specific units is necessary to protect lives and the integrity of the electoral process.
He called on voters and stakeholders to understand that such measures are taken to uphold democratic principles and ensure that elections are won at polling units rather than courtrooms.
The INEC Chairman reassured that all other materials and arrangements are in place, and accredited voters will still have ample opportunity to cast their ballots across the state.
This move highlights the persistent challenges of insecurity and logistical constraints in parts of Anambra, but also INEC's commitment to transparency and credible elections.
