The criminal trial against the immediate past National Chairman of the APC, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, his wife, Dr. Hafsat Umar Ganduje, and six others over alleged misappropriation of public funds has faced yet another setback. The case, which involves charges of bribery, conspiracy, and diversion of billions of naira, was adjourned until November 26, 2025, due to the inability of the defendants to file necessary applications or appear in court.
The trial was expected to proceed with the prosecution presenting witnesses, but the defense counsels sought adjournments citing issues such as improper service of hearing notices, filing of applications for stay of proceedings at the Court of Appeal, and other legal objections.
The court referee emphasized that all pending motions must be resolved before the case can continue.
The case has seen multiple delays, with the defendants frequently failing to file appearances or proceedings being halted due to legal objections, which has extended the timeline for justice. The ongoing case remains prominent in Nigeria’s anti-corruption efforts.
