ABU Revives 3+2 Degree Pact with China's Central South University to Supercharge Tech Talent

Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria has reactivated and expanded its 3+2 double degree partnership with Central South University (CSU) China, following a productive virtual meeting on December 19, 2025, to bolster Nigeria's engineering, science, and technology education under the China-Africa Cooperation framework. Launched in 2017 via MoU, the program sent 45 ABU students to CSU in 2018 for two final years after three at home, yielding dual degrees until COVID-19 halted it in 2021 now resuming with added staff exchanges, joint research in renewable energy, computer engineering, and medical sciences.

ABU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Adamu Ahmed hailed it as a "flagship model" for engineering, driving technology transfer, innovation, and human capital amid global partnerships, leading a delegation including Prof. M.I. Umar-Buratai and Dean Prof. J.M. Kaura opposite CSU's Prof. Li Zhihong. This revival addresses Nigeria's skills gap, exemplifying FOCAC's impact post-lockdowns, with ABU eyeing broader frontiers like life sciences for sustainable development.

The move aligns with national tech pushes, positioning ABU as a hub for Sino-African academic synergy and graduate employability in high-demand sectors.
