Niger Delta activist and Amanyanabo of Torusarama Piri, Asari Dokubo, vowed on January 6, 2026, to do everything possible to ensure President Bola Tinubu's re-election, crediting the president for standing by him during tough times. The pledge came during FCT Minister Nyesom Wike's thank-you tour in Degema LGA, Rivers State, where Dokubo declared it his turn to reciprocate loyalty dating back to their 1992 friendship.
Dokubo, now a traditional ruler, emphasized: "He stood by me in my most difficult period, and it is now my turn to also stand by him and support him," committing all resources to Tinubu's success despite traditional rulers avoiding overt politics. Wike framed the visit as New Year greetings and grassroots mobilization for APC victories.
The endorsement bolsters Wike's campaign against Governor Sim Fubara, mirroring Bayelsa APC stakeholders' and Rivers Elders Council's parallel Tinubu backing. Dokubo joins Wike's cross-party structure rejecting external instructions on state matters.
Dokubo's shift from past militancy to Tinubu advocacy highlights Niger Delta realignments, complementing Katsina youths' Atiku pledges and PDP-Jonathan meetings amid INEC's voter registration relaunch.
