Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has thrown his weight behind FCT Minister Nyesom Wike in the ongoing political tussle with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his former political protégé.In a candid interview on Arise Television on Tuesday, Fayose emphasized that those encouraging Governor Fubara to confront Wike would likely abandon him if the situation deteriorates. Drawing from his own past experiences of political isolation, he warned that superficial supporters often disappear when the going gets tough.
Fayose further asserted that President Bola Tinubu maintains firm command over Lagos State affairs, describing it as being under his complete influence. He pointed out that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu cannot realistically position himself as the true political leader of Lagos.
To illustrate his point, Fayose referenced a recent incident in the Lagos State House of Assembly where the Speaker was impeached and later reinstated—without any direct public statement from the President—suggesting the action was swiftly reversed because it challenged Tinubu's authority as the state's paramount leader.
He challenged anyone to have Sanwo-Olu publicly declare himself the leader of Lagos politics, implying such a claim would be merely cosmetic or for show. Fayose advised against taking such statements too seriously, likening some political remarks to apologies made only for the sake of maintaining peace rather than genuine remorse.
Overall, the former governor's comments appear to underscore Wike's stronger position and relevance in the current political dynamics, while cautioning Fubara against misguided defiance.
