Nigeria's Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) relaunched its Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise nationwide on January 6, 2026, marking the second phase ahead of the 2027 general elections. Online pre-registration is live at cvr.inecnigeria.org, with physical enrolment resuming at state and LGA offices from 9am-3pm weekdays until August 30, 2026.
Following the first phase's closure on December 10, 2025 which saw 9.89 million online initiations but only 2.57 million completions INEC aims to boost participation among new voters and replacements. The process targets IDPs, 18-year-olds, and those needing updates, with no fees and warnings against multiples.
CVR aligns with INEC's 2025-2026 schedule, including Anambra's early start and off-cycle polls, ensuring registers 90 days pre-election. Over 1.3 million pre-registered in the first week of phase one, signaling strong initial interest.
Registration occurs at 811 offices initially, expanding based on demand and safety, amid Kaduna abductions and national insecurity concerns. INEC stresses BVAS integration for credibility.
