Bimbo Thomas' Chilling Ordeal: Hid Funke Akindele from Armed Robbers on Omo Ghetto 2 Set

Nollywood actress Bimbo Thomas revealed she narrowly escaped death during a midnight armed robbery targeting Funke Akindele while filming Omo Ghetto Part Two in Ebute Metta, Lagos, in 2017.

The incident unfolded around 1 a.m. at Akindele's hotel after a late shoot; Thomas joined her for a massage despite prior local hoodlum disruptions on set due to the thuggery theme. Armed men, numbering six inside with 20 more outside, banged doors shouting "Ole!" and specifically demanded "Funke da?" (Where is Funke?). Thomas hid Akindele under her gown in the bathroom amid frantic prayers, but robbers broke in, dragged Akindele downstairs half-naked to her car, forcing her to sing "Emi Omo Ghetto" and dance.

Gunshots erupted after calls to Oba Saheed Elegushi and Panti Police intervened; Akindele fled to a generator area for cover as attackers scattered, leaving chaos including a shot pastor. Thomas, who grew up in the area, linked the raid to prior arrests of set-disturbing boys who recorded apology videos. Several robbers were later arrested or killed, per Thomas in her With Chude interview uploaded January 3, 2026.

Fans expressed shock and gratitude online, praising the women's resilience.
