BBNaija Shakes Up Format: Physical Auditions Return for 2025 Season After Five Years

In a surprising move, the organizers of Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) have announced the return of in-person auditions for its landmark tenth season, marking a dramatic shift from the virtual tryouts used since 2019. The reality show revealed the format change through an Instagram post on Saturday that has since gone viral, sending hopeful contestants into a frenzy.

"This time, it's all about showing up and being you," the announcement declared, teasing fans with the promise: "Ready to shine? Get set - your moment is closer than you think! Season 10 is coming." The post notably omitted key details about audition venues and premiere dates, fueling speculation among the show's massive fanbase.

The decision ends a five-year virtual audition streak that began during Season 4 ("Pepper Dem" edition) as a solution for applicants who couldn't attend physical tryouts. The digital approach became permanent during the pandemic years, with subsequent seasons ("Lockdown," "Shine Ya Eye," "Level Up," and "All Stars") all using online submissions.

Industry insiders suggest the return to physical auditions could signal producers' desire for more authentic, unedited first impressions of potential housemates. "Virtual auditions allowed for multiple takes and editing," noted entertainment analyst Tunde Ogunlana. "Live auditions will test contestants' raw charisma and screen presence immediately."

Social media has erupted with reactions, with many praising the move as a return to BBNaija's roots, while others criticize it as excluding applicants from remote areas. "This favors Lagos-based hopefuls," tweeted @NaijaRealityFan. "What about talents in villages without transport to audition centers?"

The show's producers have yet to clarify whether virtual options will remain available for exceptional cases. Previous seasons have drawn over 30,000 applicants, with only about 20-30 ultimately selected for the televised competition.

As anticipation builds, all eyes remain on MultiChoice Nigeria for forthcoming details about audition locations, dates, and potential celebrity hosts. The tenth season promises to be a watershed moment for Africa's most-watched reality franchise, which has launched careers of stars like Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Laycon, and Mercy Eke.

Aspiring contestants are already preparing their audition outfits and strategies, knowing the physical format could make or break their BBNaija dreams within seconds. As the show's tagline warns: "Only the bold survive."
