BREAKING: 5 Inmates Caught After Kogi Jailbreak, 7 Still on the Run – Authorities Issue Public Alert

Lokoja, Nigeria – Authorities in Kogi State have confirmed the recapture of five inmates who escaped from a correctional facility during a recent jailbreak, while seven others remain at large.  

Key Details of the Incident

- Breakout Occurrence: The jailbreak took place at a medium-security prison in Kogi State, though officials have not disclosed the exact date or circumstances of the escape.  

- Recapture Efforts: Security operatives, including the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) and local police, launched a manhunt, leading to the rearrest of five inmates.  

- Remaining Fugitives: Seven escapees are still on the run, raising concerns about public safety. Authorities have urged residents to report any suspicious individuals.  

Official Statements

A spokesperson for the NCoS assured the public that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining fugitives. “We are working closely with other security agencies to ensure all escapees are returned to custody,” the official stated.  

Previous Jailbreaks in Nigeria 

This incident adds to a growing list of prison breaks in Nigeria, highlighting security challenges within correctional facilities. In 2022, an attack on Kuje Prison in Abuja freed hundreds of inmates, including suspected terrorists.
