Afrobeats superstar Davido has shared the surprising revelation that he's never actually met Nicki Minaj in person, despite working together on two major songs.
The Nigerian artist made the disclosure during a recent appearance on the Bootleg Kev podcast, where he explained how their unexpected musical partnership began.
A Digital Connection
"It's crazy - I've never met her," Davido admitted. "We speak on the phone all the time, but our first contact was actually through Instagram DMs."
The Grammy-nominated singer recalled noticing Minaj was following him on social media back in 2019 or 2020. "I decided to message her, and when I woke up the next morning, she had replied. I was shocked," he said.
From DM to Studio Magic
Davido immediately pitched a collaboration: "I told her I had a song for us, and she was interested. I sent her the record, and just two days later, she sent back her verse."
The track became Holy Ground, their 2020 hit that brought Afrobeats and hip-hop together. Plans to film a video in Los Angeles fell through due to Minaj's pregnancy at the time.
An Ongoing Creative Partnership
Their professional relationship continued when Minaj reached out last year for her Pink Friday 2 anniversary album. "She's always been supportive - amazing to work with," Davido praised.
Despite their successful musical chemistry spanning continents and genres, the two global stars have yet to share a physical studio session or meet face-to-face - proving in today's music industry, sometimes all you need is a strong WiFi connection to create magic.
