Port Harcourt – A former local government chairman in Rivers State, Hon. Chijioke Ihunwo, has made explosive claims that the recent emergency rule declaration in the state was a premeditated arrangement between President Bola Tinubu and former Governor Nyesom Wike.
Speaking at a press conference in Port Harcourt on Monday, Ihunwo alleged:
"The so-called emergency rule is not about restoring peace but a political deal between Tinubu and Wike to undermine Governor Siminalayi Fubara's administration. This was planned long before the crisis escalated."
Ihunwo, a member of the opposition PDP, presented no concrete evidence but pointed to:
- The speed of the emergency declaration
- Wike's frequent meetings with APC leaders
- The immediate appointment of a sole administrator
The Presidency has dismissed the claims as "baseless conspiracy theories," while Wike's camp called them "the rantings of a failed politician."
Political analysts note these allegations could further polarize the state as the administrator begins implementing emergency measures.
