The controversy began when Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, during an appearance on Arise TV’s Morning Show on Friday, accused the Senate President of victimizing her after she rejected his alleged sexual advances. Her allegations have sparked a heated public debate, drawing attention away from critical national issues.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Chief Emami expressed concern over the escalating media war between the two lawmakers, warning that it could distract Nigerians from focusing on the Tinubu administration’s efforts to drive national development. He specifically referenced the N54.99 trillion 2025 budget, which President Bola Tinubu signed into law on Friday, February 28, urging Nigerians to prioritize discussions on how the budget would accelerate the country’s progress.
Emami stated, “The avoidable media war has taken the minds of majority of Nigerians off the critical issue of the N54.99 trillion 2025 budget President Tinubu signed into law. Rather than focusing on the nitty-gritty of the budget and how it would accelerate the palpable progress being made in the country, many Nigerians are exerting their energies on the disagreement between the two distinguished senators.”
Emphasizing the need to uphold the integrity of the Senate, the APC chieftain revealed that leaders of the party in the South-South region are working behind the scenes to resolve the conflict. He described the situation as a family matter and expressed confidence that a resolution would soon be reached.
“I want to use this medium to appeal to both parties to embrace peace, for the interest of the nation. By the grace of God and the wisdom of our good ancestors, the issues will be resolved soon,” Emami added.
The call for restraint comes amid growing concerns that the public feud could undermine the stability of the Senate and create unnecessary distractions for the Tinubu administration. As the situation unfolds, Daily Mentor News Online will continue to provide updates on efforts to mediate the conflict and restore harmony within the legislative body.
