Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has firmly rejected a proposal by U.S. President Donald Trump to take control of Gaza, stating that the territory belongs to the Palestinian people and is an inseparable part of Palestinian land. Wang made the remarks during a press conference at China’s annual legislative session, as reported by Xinhua News Agency on Friday.
Wang emphasized China’s support for a peace plan initiated by Egypt and other Arab countries to restore stability in Gaza. “China supports the plan for restoring peace in Gaza initiated by Egypt and other Arab countries. Gaza belongs to the Palestinian people and is an inseparable part of the Palestinian territory,” he said.
The Foreign Minister warned that any forced change to Gaza’s status would only lead to “new chaos” in the region. He reaffirmed China’s commitment to advocating for justice, peace, and development for the people of the Middle East, stating, “China will continue to strive resolutely for justice, peace, and development for the Middle East people.”
The statement comes in response to Trump’s controversial proposal, reiterated in February, to take control of Gaza despite opposition from several European countries.
The U.S. leader had expressed his commitment to “owning” the war-torn enclave, a move that has drawn widespread criticism and raised concerns about the implications for Palestinian sovereignty and regional stability.
