President Volodymyr Zelensky has confirmed another large-scale attack on Ukraine by the Russian Army, describing it as a targeted assault on the country’s energy infrastructure. In a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Friday, Zelensky revealed that the Russian military used nearly 70 missiles, including cruise and ballistic missiles, as well as almost 200 attack drones in the overnight strikes.
The attacks targeted various facilities in multiple regions, including Odesa, Poltava, Chernihiv, and Ternopil. Zelensky stated, “Last night, the Russian army carried out another massive attack on our energy infrastructure. In total, the Russians used nearly 70 missiles, both cruise and ballistic, as well as almost 200 attack drones. All of this was directed against infrastructure that ensures normal life.”
He added that repair and restoration efforts are underway in affected areas, but the attacks also caused damage to residential buildings. “Unfortunately, ordinary residential buildings have also been damaged. In Kharkiv, a Russian missile hit close to an apartment building. People were injured. They are receiving the necessary assistance,” Zelensky said.
The latest assault comes less than 24 hours after a deadly attack on a hotel in Ukraine, which killed at least four people and injured around 30 others. The escalation in violence underscores the ongoing intensity of the conflict, now in its second year, and the devastating impact on civilian infrastructure and lives.
DAILY MENTOR reports that the attacks on energy infrastructure are part of a broader Russian strategy to disrupt Ukraine’s power supply and weaken its resilience during the winter months. The strikes have left millions without electricity, heating, or water, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the war-torn country.
Zelensky’s statement highlights the urgent need for international support to help Ukraine defend itself and rebuild its critical infrastructure. The Ukrainian President has repeatedly called for increased military aid and sanctions against Russia to hold it accountable for its actions.
The international community continues to condemn Russia’s aggression, with many nations pledging additional support for Ukraine. However, the latest attacks serve as a stark reminder of the challenges Ukraine faces as it battles to protect its sovereignty and civilian population.
As the conflict drags on, the human and economic toll continues to rise, with no immediate end in sight. Ukraine remains steadfast in its resistance, but the need for sustained global solidarity and assistance remains critical.
