Beijing, China – A Chinese spokesperson has called on the United States to collaborate with China in resolving trade disputes through equal-footed consultation, emphasizing that pressure or threats are ineffective. The remarks were made by Lou Qinjian, spokesperson for the third session of the 14th National People’s Congress, China’s national legislature, during a news conference on Tuesday.
Lou’s comments came in response to the US decision to impose an additional 10% tariff on goods imported from China. He criticized the move, stating that it violates World Trade Organization (WTO) rules and disrupts the security and stability of global industrial and supply chains.
“China stands ready to work with the US to address each other’s concerns through dialogue and consultation on the basis of mutual respect, equality, reciprocity, and mutual benefit,” Lou said. “China will never accept any act of pressuring or threatening.
We will firmly defend our national sovereignty, security, and development interests.”
Lou further expressed China’s hope that the US would return to resolving trade issues through constructive dialogue and consultation. He reiterated China’s commitment to safeguarding its interests while advocating for a cooperative approach to addressing bilateral trade challenges.
The US tariff decision has escalated tensions between the two economic powerhouses, raising concerns about the potential impact on global trade and economic stability. China’s call for dialogue underscores its preference for diplomatic solutions over unilateral actions that could further strain relations.
As the trade dispute continues, stakeholders worldwide are closely monitoring developments, hoping for a resolution that promotes fair trade practices and strengthens global economic cooperation. China’s stance highlights its determination to protect its interests while advocating for a balanced and mutually beneficial approach to resolving trade conflicts.
