Mexico’s President Sheinbaum Praises Collaboration with US as Trump Suspends Tariffs

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum on Thursday celebrated “unprecedented results” from collaboration with the United States after US President Donald Trump announced the suspension of most tariffs on Mexican goods until April 2.

Sheinbaum made the statement in a social media post following what she described as an “excellent and respectful” phone call with Trump.

“We will continue to work together, particularly on migration and security issues,” she said.

DAILY MENTOR reports that Trump’s decision to pause tariffs against Mexico came after discussions with Sheinbaum. The US President stated that Mexico would not be required to pay tariffs on any goods covered under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

Trump also emphasized the positive relationship between the two leaders, noting their joint efforts to address illegal migration into the United States.

“My relationship with President Sheinbaum has been a very good one, and we are working hard together to prevent illegal migrants from entering the United States,” Trump said.

The suspension of tariffs marks a significant step in strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations, with a focus on addressing shared challenges such as migration and security.

DAILY MENTOR will continue to monitor developments in US-Mexico relations and provide updates as the situation evolves.
