Two persons have been confirmed dead following a violent clash between rival cult groups in Ughelli Community, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday night, involved members of the Eiye and Vikings confraternities, who were reportedly battling for supremacy in the area.
DAILY MENTOR gathered that the clash lasted several hours, with the cultists shooting sporadically into the air and attacking each other, as well as passersby, with dangerous weapons. Several individuals sustained grievous injuries during the violence.
At the time of this report, it remains unclear whether the deceased were members of either cult group, as neither has claimed responsibility for the deaths.
The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident in a text and WhatsApp message to our correspondent in Warri. His message simply read, “Confirmed.”
The clash has heightened tensions in the community, with residents calling for increased security to prevent further violence.
