Rio Ferdinand Criticizes Rasmus Højlund’s Form Under Ruben Amorim at Manchester United

Manchester, England – Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has expressed concerns over striker Rasmus Højlund’s recent performances under manager Ruben Amorim, describing the Danish forward as “off it and so bad.” Ferdinand’s comments came after Manchester United’s disappointing exit from the FA Cup, following a defeat to Fulham over the weekend.

Højlund, who joined the Red Devils from Atalanta in 2023 for £72 million, has struggled to make an impact this season, scoring just two goals in the Premier League. The 22-year-old started in the FA Cup tie against Fulham but was substituted in the second half for teenager Chido Obi-Martin, whose introduction sparked some excitement among fans.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ferdinand did not hold back in his assessment of Højlund’s form and the team’s overall struggles. “That result killed me,” Ferdinand said. “I was on the floor. This United side can’t create chances, they can’t score goals. It’s a joke.”

He added, “For me, because Højlund has been so off it and so bad recently, when you saw that kid [Obi-Martin] come on, everyone got excited with the little things.”

Ferdinand’s critique highlights the growing frustration among Manchester United fans and pundits over the team’s lack of attacking prowess and Højlund’s inability to justify his hefty price tag. The young striker’s struggles have raised questions about his suitability for the Premier League and whether he can adapt to the demands of playing for a club of Manchester United’s stature.

As the season progresses, pressure is mounting on both Højlund and manager Ruben Amorim to turn things around. With Manchester United’s hopes of silverware now limited to the Premier League, the club will need their star players, including Højlund, to step up and deliver consistent performances. Ferdinand’s comments serve as a stark reminder of the high expectations at Old Trafford and the challenges facing the team in their quest for success.
