The Kano State Government has reaffirmed that Muhammadu Sanusi II remains the Emir of Kano, putting an end to speculations about his removal amid an ongoing emirate tussle. The clarification comes after rumors circulated that the state government was planning to dethrone Sanusi, who was reinstated as Emir in 2024 following a court ruling.
In a statement issued by the Kano State Commissioner for Information, the government emphasized its commitment to upholding the rule of law and respecting the judiciary’s decision. “Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II is the rightful Emir of Kano, and the state government fully recognizes his authority,” the statement read.
The emirate tussle stems from a long-standing dispute over the Kano Emirate’s leadership, which has seen multiple legal battles and political interventions. Sanusi, a former Central Bank Governor, was initially dethroned in 2020 but was reinstated last year after a court nullified his removal.
The Kano State Government urged residents to disregard the rumors and remain calm, assuring them that the administration is focused on promoting peace and development in the state.
