Czech Republic club Slavia Prague has expressed pride and joy over defender Igho Ogbu’s first-ever invitation to the Nigerian senior national team, the Super Eagles. Ogbu was named in the 39-man provisional squad announced by head coach Eric Chelle on Tuesday for Nigeria’s upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
The club took to X (formerly Twitter) to celebrate the milestone, writing, “Igho Ogbu earns his first senior @NGSuperEagles call-up! Nigeria will face Rwanda and Zimbabwe in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers. Congratulations, Iggy! We are so proud of you!”
The 25-year-old center-back, who has been a key figure for Slavia Prague, previously represented Nigeria at the U-20 level. He was part of the Flying Eagles squad that competed in the 2019 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in Niger and later featured in the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland the same year.
Ogbu’s inclusion in the Super Eagles’ provisional squad marks a significant step in his career, reflecting his consistent performances and growth as a defender. His call-up also highlights the growing recognition of Nigerian talents plying their trade abroad.
As the Super Eagles prepare for their crucial World Cup qualifiers, Ogbu will be eager to make an impression and secure a spot in the final squad. Slavia Prague and Nigerian football fans alike will be rooting for him as he aims to contribute to the national team’s quest for a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
