Borno Governor Zulum Warns: State Losing Ground to Boko Haram

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has expressed deep concern over the resurgence of Boko Haram attacks in the state, warning that Borno is losing ground to the terrorist group. This comes after a series of recent attacks on military formations and communities, which have resulted in significant casualties and heightened insecurity.

Recent Attacks:

- Izge Village Assault:

Boko Haram insurgents attacked a military formation in Izge village, Gwoza Local Government Area, killing at least a captain and a corporal. The attack was repelled with the help of local vigilantes and hunters, but not before several terrorists were also killed.

- Damboa and Gamboru Ngala Attacks:

Similar assaults occurred in Wajirko, Damboa Local Government Area, and Wulgo village in Gamboru Ngala, leading to heavy casualties among troops.

Governor Zulum's Concerns:

- Security Situation:

Zulum lamented that the renewed attacks and kidnappings, which occur almost daily without confrontation, signal a setback for Borno and the North-east region.

- Call for Technological Upgrade:

The governor emphasized the need for the military to adopt advanced technology, such as drones, to combat Boko Haram effectively.

- Historical Context:

Despite relative peace in the past three years, the recent spike in attacks threatens to reverse progress made in stabilizing the region.

Response from Stakeholders:

- Senator Ndume's Reaction:

Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, echoed Zulum's concerns and called for the military to be equipped with modern warfare tools to counter the insurgency.

- Shehu of Borno's Appeal:

The Shehu of Borno appealed to the Federal Government to prioritize the reconstruction of critical road networks to enhance security and development in the state.

As Borno faces this new wave of threats, Governor Zulum's warning highlights the urgent need for enhanced security measures and technological advancements to combat the persistent Boko Haram menace.
