Athens, Greece – An explosion occurred outside the offices of Hellenic Train, Greece's main railway company, in a busy district of central Athens on Friday night. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries.
The blast comes amid widespread public anger over the 2023 Tempi railway disaster, Greece's worst rail accident, which killed 57 people and injured dozens when two trains were put on the same track by mistake.
Local media received an anonymous call warning of the bomb about 35 minutes before it detonated. Authorities quickly evacuated the area, and police cordoned off the site to ensure public safety. The incident is under investigation, with no claim of responsibility yet.
The explosion highlights ongoing public dissatisfaction with the government's handling of the 2023 disaster and the broader safety issues in Greece's railway system.
