Akamkpa, Cross River State – The Federal Government of Nigeria inaugurated the construction of a 65-kilometer section of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road in Akamkpa Local Government Area, Cross River State, on Monday. This section, designated as 3A and 3B, is a crucial component of the larger 750km coastal highway project.
The Minister of Works, Chief Dave Umahi, officiated the ceremony, accompanied by Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu, who represented President Bola Tinubu. Umahi emphasized that the three-lane dual carriageway, like other sections of the road, will be constructed using continuous reinforced concrete pavement for durability.
Umahi praised President Tinubu's commitment to infrastructural development, acknowledging him as a "national hero" for his efforts. He also appealed to communities along the road's corridor to cooperate with the contractor to ensure timely project completion.
President Tinubu, in his remarks, highlighted the Lagos-Calabar coastal road's significance as an economic enabler, a job creation engine, a link for regional integration, and a facilitator of cultural exchange. He stated his administration's commitment to creating an environment where businesses can thrive through access to loans, grants, and professional advice.
The Federal Controller of Works in Cross River, Olayinka Onafuye, assured that the project would adhere to the highest standards and specifications.
