Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Torches Unveiled: A Triumph of Innovation and Sustainability

On April 14, 2025, the official torches for the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games were unveiled at two prestigious venues: the Triennale di Milano in Italy and Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan. Named “Essential,” the torches showcase a minimalist design that highlights both innovation and a strong commitment to sustainability.

The project was a collaboration between Eni, Premium Partner of Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026, and Versalis, the Games’ Official Supporter. The design was developed by the renowned Studio Carlo Ratti Associati, led by Carlo Ratti, a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), with engineering and production handled by the Cavagna Group.

Carlo Ratti explained that the torch’s design philosophy centers on stripping away unnecessary elements to focus on the flame itself, symbolizing purity and the Olympic spirit. The use of renewable materials and cutting-edge technology reflects the Games’ dedication to environmental responsibility.

Ratti also emphasized that the torch’s creation was a collaborative effort, mirroring the unity and cooperation that the Olympics represent on a global scale.

The “Essential” torch stands as a beacon of innovation, sustainability, and design excellence, perfectly embodying the spirit of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Games.
