Mr. Nicholas Ukachukwu has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag bearer for the upcoming Anambra governorship election, triumphing over Valentine Ozigbo in the party's primary election held on Saturday.
Ukachukwu secured a decisive victory, garnering 1,455 votes, while Ozigbo trailed behind with 67 votes. The Anambra State governorship election, slated for November 2025, is anticipated to be a key off-cycle election in Nigeria.
Incumbent Governor Chukwuma Soludo has already secured the ticket for the ruling party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), setting the stage for a competitive electoral contest.
In his victory speech, Ukachukwu pledged to deliver Anambra State to the APC. He asserted his influence in previous elections, stating, "We shall deliver Anambra to the APC...nobody has won the governorship of Anambra without my support; it has never happened before." Ukachukwu further declared his intention to assume a more prominent role, stating, "I have been playing godfatherism, but now I want to be the father of the father, no more godfather."
